If you want to experience the beaches of Hawaii, one of the sites you should see is the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve just outside of Waikiki on Oahu. Hanauma Bay isn't what you would call a "sport beach", as their efforts are more for preserving the marine life the way it should be.
Although sadly there has been a lot of damage to the coral growths inside the main waters of Hanauma Bay, still tourists can enjoy the sand beaches and abundant sea life from the exotic shores. Snorkeling is a key activity, and feeding the fish is just one of the enjoyable activities.

When you're on vacation in Hawaii, it's great to be able the freedom to travel around anytime and anywhere you want (well within reason...you are on an island). So of course, if you expect to see more sites and visit more of the fantastic Hawaii tourist spots, you're going to want to rent a vehicle to get you to your destinations. Why? Because taxis are expensive, hotel shuttles are mostly only going to get you to and from the airport to your hotel, and well, public transit can be a nightmare in any city, let only Honolulu. Plus, you're not likely to be able to get anywhere fast or far when you're relying on a bus.
So a car rental in Hawaii is definitely going to be your best option, and probably the most affordable in the long run, especially when you can exclude tips and other service charges. Yes, you're most likely going to require insurance, and you'll need to pay for fuel, parking, (and probably a road map), but traveling in Hawaii by automobile isn't the worst form of transportation. Of course, there are no bridges that connect the islands of Hawaii, so if you expect to be spending any time on any of the other islands other than the island of Oahu, then you might also want to look into Maui car rentals as well.
